School girl and teacherA successful year at school requires planning and a positive approach towards including children with a disability by everyone involved in your child's education.

A new guide, produced by the Association for Children wih a Disability in Victoria, will help parents to navigate their way through the issues that may arise at school. 

The Positive Education Planning booklet includes parent stories and background information.

Topics include: 

- Parents and schools - developing positive partnerships
- The student support group
- Understanding your child as a learner
- Individual learning plans
- Setting goals
- Supports for students with a disability
- Measuring yor child's progress
- Raising a concern
- Advocating for your child, including advocacy organisations.

The booklet is available free to families in Victoria, but can also be downloaded from the ACD website at www.acd.org.au/information/education_planning.htm
