Guest blogger - Nick Economidis
Hello, my name is Nick Economidis. I’m the father of two wonderful boys, Luca aged 8 and Noah aged 5, and an amazing wife Donna. My oldest son Luca has cerebral palsy and needs a high degree of care.
In my spare time I also operate a financial planning practice, a career which I’ve been involved in for more than 15 years. Both my ‘careers’ as a parent and a financial planner have taught me the importance of having long term plans in place for my family. Too often we concentrate on the here and now without taking the time to look ahead. This is something that I feel is important for all families, and is something that we look at for all our clients. Having a child with disability only impacts on the length of time for the planning, not on its need.
Young Adults with Cerebral Palsy’s Stories of Leaving Home: When do they move out and why? A message from the research team at the University of Sydney Faculty of Health Sciences...
Can you help us with our project? We are seeking young adults (18 – 30 years old) with cerebral palsy who are thinking about or have recently moved out of their parental home to live in the community.
Spectronics have some lovely pre-made communications boards in Christmas themes.
Symbol boards such as these are a great way to model and expand the communication skills of both verbal and nonverbal children. Point to the symbols as you talk with your child and help them to point to symbols to communicate with you.
